What is a good reaction time?
Reaction time is how long it takes you to notice something and respond to it. On an online click test like this one, most adults land roughly between 200 and 300 milliseconds. Here is how this test labels your average:
| Average | Rating |
|---|---|
| Under 190 ms | ⚡ Lightning |
| 190–219 ms | 🎮 Pro gamer |
| 220–249 ms | 🎯 Sharp |
| 250–289 ms | 🙂 Typical human |
| 290–339 ms | 😴 A bit sleepy |
| 340 ms and over | ☕ Coffee first |
The "faster than X% of people" figure is an estimate based on the usual spread of scores on tests like this, not a live leaderboard.
How the test works
- Press start. The box turns red: wait.
- After a random 1.5 to 5 seconds it turns green. Click, tap or press Space right away.
- Click too early and that try doesn't count. Anything under 100 ms is treated as a guess.
- After five valid tries you get your average, your fastest try and how you compare.
Why your score changes
- Tiredness and sleep. Reaction time usually slows when you are fatigued or short on sleep, which makes this a handy quick check on how alert you are right now.
- Warm-up. Scores often improve over the first few rounds as you settle in.
- Your device. Screen refresh rate, wireless mice, touchscreens and the browser all add a few milliseconds. Use the same setup when comparing.
- Age and practice. Reaction time tends to slow gradually with age, and regular practice at fast-paced games can sharpen it.
Questions
Is it better to use a mouse, keyboard or touchscreen?
A wired mouse or the Space bar is usually quickest. Touchscreens tend to add a little delay, so expect slightly slower numbers on a phone.
Why five tries?
A single try is noisy. Averaging five gives a steadier picture of your true speed, while staying quick enough to replay.
Is my score stored?
Only in your own browser, so you can see your personal best, today's best and your daily streak. Nothing is sent to us, and clearing your browser data resets it.
Is this a medical test?
No. It's a fun, general check of how quickly you respond on this device. If you notice a sudden or lasting change in your reflexes or coordination, talk to a doctor.
